This thread has had a lot of responses which range from: " been stripped of 99% of anything worthwhile for thousands of blocks around" to " quite full of valuable resources". I decided to test the theory for myself.

Using Zionia's tip I entered through a portal other than the one at /warp nether. I walked for about half an hour (some walking, some mining, some climbing, etc). I found a nether fort with blaze two spawners. After getting those I walked another 10 minutes to another fort. I got up to the top and this is what I saw (two more blaze spawners!):



So my conclusion is that a lot of awesome stuff is still there.

Edit: I called it quits for the day after finding my 8th blaze spawner.

It will forever have valuable stuff since its pretty much infinite

It'd be nice if there were more warps and such in it... Not being able to return to where you were is a huge bummer. The nether is empty! Stay away. I built a portal and found a fortress in a few minutes. It's pretty hollow now. I bet those pigzombiethingamonsters are fairly angry now.
