[Enjin Archive] SERVER CLEANUP
Started by [E] Cryston

Yeah, expansion may actually be the better alternative.
expansion, and the cuboid cleanup.
So far i have heard requests for the cleanup, expansion or both. I don't know when cody is going to be capable of expanding without causing more server load with the larger map. I think we should start another thread where people can request 1 or 2 builldings that they personally want so that while toes will be stepped on in the cleanup we can at least not destroy people's homes. I pray for expansion but i understand what that can entail server side. As far as the preservation thread we should post both a picture of the place and a location on the world map.
Cleanup + expansion... Well.. Thats my opinion..
We should fill the sphere with tnt, but compress it all in the center to the area of one block when it becomes affected by gravity. The resulting explosion should destroy any remaining structures.
Clean up the server most definitely, with the ability of future expansion too. I have a few ideas, but there is no room to build most of them. Cleaning things up, will open up tons of new land. I will help too, if allowed.

Unfortunately, I know Oasis is a smaller city, and I've invested enough time into it that i'd be very sad to see it go.

There are way too many cities out there though, which has spread the population so thin that no cities are ever crowded, or have that real city feel. It'd be hard to decide, "Okay this city goes, but this one can stay." And when that happens, who decides what can go or stay? The admins? Even they are not without bias, as Broly owns Hyrule, and Skycity, Laucain has his towers, Cryston's sphere (Which I think we'd all agreed got to stay) but you see what I mean. No one will want to put their own land on the executioner's block.

Perhaps representatives from each section of the player population could go to each settlement and score it 1-10 on various things. Then, anything below say a 5 could be axed.

Exactly right. Everyone seems to have bought a lot wherever people are at the time, when their real homes are very much elsewhere <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f600.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":d">:d</object>

An interesting idea would be some sort of realtime updating popuation board, that shows how many people are in each area, but thats probably not possible in minecraft :>

A lot of people seem to make their own towns for no real reason, maybe we should instigate some sort of charge.

IE. If you want to make a town you have to pay the admins and amount of gold and show them where and how, to stop huge amounts of space and time being wasted, let alone giant ugly cobble towns.

First thing i did when i joined was i'll make my own! ended up making a fairly large complex and find myself using it for nothing more than storage really.

I disagree. I am newly joined, and do not wish to pay an admin in gold for the right to build something. That is not very worthwhile or productive in my opinion.
One other thing we could do is using cuboid we could save some of the more important places and spawn and then load them into a resetted map possibly trying to carry over items too. this would make room for more building while not necessarily wiping the most crucial parts of the server. I would have to talk with sawine on how to do this effectively but we could probably retain the parts of the server that are the most developed and then place them in reasonable proximity so that there is more space for building. This would also allow for the new update to take effect in making our environment more varied with different types of trees.

WARNING: If we do this there will be a significant amount of work needed and would not take effect until we made the new map. Do not take this idea lightly as it is will take cody and sawine a decent amount of time to do this.
Oh no i don't mean just to build something, I mean to set up a town.

After all a brand new player shouldn't join and immediately think IM GONNA MAKE MY OWN TOWN

When they don't know the community at all yet

If you want your own house then fine, but if you're going to use huge amounts of space and have a ghost town then yeah...
