[Enjin Archive] [Tekkit] A New Map to Fix the Lag? And The Fate of EE?
Started by [E] MastaC729

Hello.

So without reading all the previous threads I'm going to give my personal opinion on this topics.

- Should EE stay in the game?

Maybe.

I've been playing another tekkit server with EE completely disabled. It is a very intensive and hard experience, just like in a vanilla server, but the economy works a lot better because Iron and Diamonds (and other stuff) turns really useful and rare.

The downside is that people tend not to focus as much in building, as in vanilla, but to make techie stuff (which causes lag).

But in general i think that disabling EE balances tekkit. I also think that EE pretty much screws a lot of IC and BC stuff and the game as a whole.

And that brings us to the maybe. Should EE be disable? do we want an hard tekkit server, much like the main?

- About the map reset.

Absolutely not!

We, the townville crew, made some of our best things around here. We hardly have factories at our base. And we lost a lot of time detailing stuff. After all that is what minecraft is about!

So if this maps reset we will lose some of our best works. I'm all against this. However I'm very aware this server is in Beta state.

My point here is, if the map is regarded as secondary in the tekkit server, then I'll not lose my time building nice stuff in here anymore. I hope it isn't.
To those who are against the map reset:

Yes, I understand that we will be losing our structures. I built a nice mansion with the help of checkers, Gear, and zdeath, and I don't like the idea of losing it. However, I don't want to spend months fixing people's broken factories who don't play anymore. It's easier to just reset the map. Now, yes that's lazy, but I don't think anyone else wants to waste time doing that when we could just reset the map. Besides, the spawn isn't done, and I'd like to start the map with a flatter spawn so there's more room to make a tutorial town. Some people were asking me if this might happen again in the future. The only answer I have to that is to prevent it from happening in the future. Even if you're not staff, you can still report laggy factories so they can be deleted or fixed. And furthermore: I never said these maps would be permanent. The Tekkit server is completely for testing at the moment. We encourage people to play on it so we can work out the bugs before we decide an official release for the server.

So at the moment, I don't see the problem with losing buildings. If you are upset about losing important stuff, then I would recommend noting what you did; there's no guarantee that it will be around for much longer, depending on when I decide to do the reset.

My main concern is not about losing the stuff (though it makes me sad) but exactly what can be done to avoid it in the future and how reliable is the server to actually build.

Yes, we can report the laggy factories, but we can do that now and that is not going to avoid a reset, is it?

It seems to me that the server policy turns to be a 'the map will eventually reset', because there will always be laggy structures in tekkit (and well, minecraft) and the our actual solution is a reset.

And that is my concern.
In the future, we would like to have a more strict building code. This would include wiping land if it was bad enough to cause tremendous lag.

It would help, but at the moment I think it would be a waste to manually remove laggy factories. Hence why I would like to do a map reset.
ok so in my opinion I don't mind a map reset. I agree with the ability to access the old server so I can keep the stuff i have worked hard on. I have been playing tekkit for almost a year, and minetown tekkit since it was possible to play minetown tekkit, and I know A LOT of the reasons that cause lag. I don't have a good computer. It's all I need for now, but it can't do more than 65 fps on the lowest settings in a given area. I know that the basic chunk auto loaders, ie world anchors, teleport tethers, etc, cause lag. I think you should be limited to 1 at the least or even 0 if theres a lot of them. I say don't ban them because they are there for a reason, to keep things going, and 1 or 2 per person won't destroy the server. Another thing I would like to mention is the EE. My personally love tekkit because it balances science and magic. I am skinned as a scientist, i made it myself, but still rely on EE for lots of things. The downfall of vanilla minecraft, basic minecraft, is that there was no goal. You just mined and mined to get gold or diamonds. To build. That was it. With tekkit the goal is to compete with your friends to see who can mass produce the most stuff in an organized factory. I admit i think EE relays and what not is cheating, but like the anchors, they're there for a reason. I don't know what I would do without them. If i had to mine for a whole day on tekkit to find one diamond, I would've gotten bored and stopped playing 11 months ago. EE is balanced. I dont find emc fair but this is what i do. when you macerate blaze rods, you get 5 blaze dust. however, when u craft blaze powder, you only get two. There for via EE, macerating blaze rods gets you 3 free dust, which has a fair amount of emc. I think EE is fair also because think about it. you find dirt everywhere, its given 1 emc. it takes 8,492 dirt to make one diamond. so this proves the range in emc because diamond is rarer then dirt, obviously. also, if you put 1 diamond in the condenser and then put a diamond block in the condenser, you would get nine back. thats equivalent to crafting the diamond block. so its not like the math is wrong. ok so this is a long explaination ik but i would like to finish it off with this. I have noticed a decrease activity on the tekkit server. idk if its because people dont know its back online yet, not side bar notification, or they are new and dont have server ip, but we are losing players, and removing stuff from tekkit that made tekkit what it is today, will cause issues with people who do play. I played this other server, nova tekkit. im not advertising them but i used that server while this one was down. I noticed something. I felt that the server was eerily boring. They had a great system, and great spawn, but it was tekkit itself that was boring. They banned almost everything in tekkit. Im just saying that removing stuff like this from the server will only backfire negitivally and lose people. people already have gotten bored of the tekkit server because of the stuff that is currently banned and that there is a lack of people on it, thus causes the attention of greifing and not caring. My name is rob. I am posting this now to tell you that you should not remove it. It won't end well. I love tekkit. I miss the old minetown tekkit with lots of people on it and the people i worked with. especially minetech, owned by VVX1000. I had my own little group going to but now your lucky if you can get 5 at a time who actually talk and are not afk. I was on early today and NO ONE was on. Please don't hurt yourself. Keep everything the same. The EE doesnt cause lag, it acctually pervents it. yes it allow to dupe but at a cost. plus it lowers mining levels yes, but then chunks are easier to load, thus less lag. one last thing. find a way to advertise the tekkit server on the website. post it on the sidebar or in a news feed because people primarily are coming due to not knowing what the server is. Please listen and keep it the same. I am here to help and support minetown in everyway, but you can help it too by doing what i mentioned above. thanks for all who read this and cya later, hopefully on the tekkit server. i am always there to help. cya later guys
alright my standing has changed to im ok with reset in fact i recommend it i am still strongly angst the wipeing of ee...
EE defeats the purpose of a survival server. Honestly, I dont know why it exists in Tekkit to begin with. Its really just an awful, game breaking mod that destroys any snese of accomplishment that goes with doing anything in Tekkit, makes any sort of economy in multiplayer utterly impossible and pointless, andadds nothing to the game but laziness and eventual boredom from not having to work for anything whatsoever.

But I suppose if people absolutely cant live without the benefits it provides, but lag that it may cause is a concern, I have a solution: just disable EE and make the tekkit server creative. Its no different really. Any additional things that creative doesn't have, have equivalents in the other Tekkit mods. Its true, look it up!
I haven't read much about this...

But my simple opinion;

~Remove all Energy Collectors and Relays. They completely ruin the aspect of gathering resources.

~I suppose a Map Reset is needed, but make sure it can't be griefed again this time <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f620.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":x">:x</object>

Think that's it <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f642.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":)">:)</object>
EE:

How about removing the highest-tier energy collectors and relays (mk3)? Maybe the mk2 too.

This would drastically lower the "abuse" of EE, but still make the construction of automated factories possible.

After all, anybody currently playing on the Tekkit server enjoys playing there because they can make these factories.

About the map reset:

Even though I'd hate to see my builds get wiped, I understand the reason why you're issueing this completely. What needs to be done, needs to be done.
Maybe just remove condensers, it would be pretty challenging building factories without a Rending Gale.
