[Enjin Archive] /party chat
Started by Unknown User

My point proven. Sure, out of all the older players (people who are familiar with most of all of the commands in game), they would use party chat and still remain social-able with many different people. However... what about all the new people? They won't have anyone. They'd be stuck with other new players, who also don't know how to use the commands. End result: Our server quality decreases. You can't reject this theory, as it is most probable.

^^^^by dun, i dont know how to quote.

You forget that all people would have to do is /ch g and they would be back in local. For example if i was in a party of 6 and only I was on then id be in local. Also what you said most likely wouldnt happen because ive used group chat before on minetown and most of the negative things you are saying will happen dont happen.

If your concerned about noobs not knowing commands they will be able to teach each other and remember players could still easily do /ch l
Duns argument is basically the same thing as saying that /ch l Local channel will ruin global chat because people will stick to their little groups. How is it different? It's an exclusive channel that only closely located people can use.

All the veterans will use their supreme knowledge of the commands to hide themselves away in local channel and will shun the global chat. Local chatters won't help new players at all because they'll be too consumed with with local chatting.

I say we remove local chat before it ruins the server!!
Please don't change this server to World of Warcraft.
Perhaps we can get those social channels before we moved to the rewritten (so from scratch) HeroChat 5.

They were not fine grained and access restricted like /party would be, but they definitely helped. My friends and I used one of them to coordinate with projects and it was fairly effective.

Since we already use HeroChat this could be implemented sooner than later, and with less overhead.

And I disagree that having extra channels is going to make people avoid global chat. I didn't ignore it, my friends didn't either. Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal, but sweeping generalizations and assumptions do not carry much weight either.
ugh... tried to edit my post, and it disappeared on me. Needless to say, it was another long essay countering points, and I'm super tired and hungry and don't want to write an essay right now. Grumpy + essay = I'll get forum banned probably, haha.

However I did find that on a previous thread Zionia stated that there are already different channels set up, in a list (supposed you have that list, imthelag?). Here's the link. I'm still looking for the thread about party chat that I participated in (not this one, one from like January, I think). Zionia gave the impression that it was also not needed (since it is easily accessible with other ways).

I think mid-Feb. was when the new HeroChat was implemented. So that list is outdated but it would be nice to have them back. Currently we only have the typical additions: Local, Trade, etc.
Ahh, see I was still under the assumption we had the original still... my bad, I take back my argumentation due to my lack of knowledge on the current chat plugin. /<object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f600.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":d">:d</object>
Yah the short time we had Mcmmo I had set up a small party chat with a few people and it works =D
in that link zionia isnt really shooting down the idea he is just saying there are 3 channels. I think if you dont want to add another channel party chat could even replace local chat, because like i said before local chats nice but my town is larger then 100b by 100b so if my friends are on one side and im on the other i cant talk to my friends
I like the idea of private chats, Im ALWAYS in local chat, but if im trying to talk to someone who is just slightly out of my range, that drives me nuts. then i have to go into /tell.
