[Enjin Archive] Unofficial How to get players fighting PvP server suggestions
Started by [E] XxDEATH_SN1PAxX

Hi guys as stated by danni here http://minetown.net/forum/m/672632/viewthread/3468774-alternate-accounts-report staff are thinking of new ideas to get more pvp to the pvp server. If people would post their suggestions here then in 4 weeks we will cast a vote and the 4 best suggestions will be messaged to staff. If we have insane amounts of suggestions i will just ask staff to go through this thread and pick ones that could be implemented in a short amount of time with minimium amount of fuss.

Please dont let this become stupid impossible ideas

Build some big and complex official fight arenas and/or host tournaments.

Too easy to rig by fighting your buddy's alt account over and over, or spawn killing.

Keep everything the way it is EXCEPT:

Make a market.

Allow creepers to spawn at a normal rate.

Allow creeper explosions in faction areas.

Lower price on TNT.

We have to remember that it is a hardcore PVP server. If people join and see that it isn't or is barely one, they WILL leave, or get bored.

It's common sense.
Some ideas:

  • Gurubashi-like Arenas:

Back when I played World of Warcraft, there was this big arena located on a known spot. In the very center of the arena, there was a chest that anyone could loot every 3 hours. Only one person could loot it and it took several seconds to open it. Getting hit (thus getting into combat) cancelled the process of opening. So basically it's a free for all with a nice reward for the last man standing.

We could make something similar like this on the PvP server. A big, great looking arena somewhere in the proximity of spawn which contains a loot chest at the center just like the Gurubashi Arena.

Reward? I'd say something non-materialistic. Grant them a token every time they manage to loot the chest, which they can exchange for either something materialistic (diamonds, enchanted armor) or for the smoke effect around your character (for example).
  • Direct Area around spawn:

The current area around spawn is a total mess. North spawn is flooded, south spawn has lots of craters, ...

Instead of fixing the area every so often, we could make a well designed village around the spawn.

The area would be protected, but PvP would be allowed.

The advantages this brings: No more time wasted to reconstruct the area round spawn, a nice-looking passage from spawnarea to the extreme pvp zone, plenty of hiding places allowing new players to easily leave the spawn area without being followed by campers.
  • An optional Tutorial rewarding a decent starter kit:

It has been mentioned a couple of times. A tutorial introducing new players to the Minetown Community, the Factions plugin, McMMO, CraftBay, ... and tips on how to make your base secure would help the newcomers out a bunch. On top of that, you could hand out a reward for completing the tutorial, a decent starter kit for example.
  • Public Netherportal and Endportal:

This would bring a lot of players closer to eachother, forcing them to defend theirselves in a free for all environment.

What could work is have the enderdragon respawned every so often, so people have a good reason to go to the end. Once there, they can either work together killing the dragon or kill eachother in greediness.

The downside to this is that at times when there's hardly any traffic on the server, one player could go kill the dragon a couple of times and easily get powerfully enchanted items.

You could counter this by a system currently used on another big pvp server which some of Minetown's members play.

The public End Portal is sealed off. You need at least 6 players standing on their respective pressureplates for the piston door to open, allowing entrance to the end.
  • More Coming Soon
Have a customised plugin called Bounty:

- All players start with 0 Bounty

- If they kill another player they will gain 20 bounty

- If a player has a bounty on them and they get killed that other player will gain that amount of bounty in credits and also gain 20 bounty

This will make pvp fights and wars more interesting and players wont camp out new players since they wont gain any credits from them
