Nether Contest Suggestion

Well, being the nether is suppose to be "Hell", why not make it a bit more intimidating?

Not to mention, this nether entrance is freaking amazing.

Basically, the idea would be like a monthly contest. Give people huge lots (32x32 or 64x64) in a new world to play with to see if they can put it to good use.

Depending on how many entries, the top X get their creation world-edited into the real nether entrance and surrounding area (Yes, it should be protected). Kind of like making the spawn nether entrance bigger, with some cool stuff to look at upon entry.

Maybe even have a portal contest to see who can come up with the coolest portal idea? (maybe some size restrictions so it could be added to the nether entrance building?)

Coolest portal? IM TOTALLY IN <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f600.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":d">:d</object>
It would also put the 5+ double chest's of netherack that I have to some form of ... use... hehe
There's one problem with this. Doing so makes the nether harder to use. Considering the fact that when you activate a portal in the real world, it creates on in the nether corresponding to coordinates... builds are bound to get messed up and destroyed. Another flaw, expanding the spawn area makes it harder to get resources (even if you prevented portals from spawning in that area). You'd have to walk very far before you get to the nether. We already have people complaining about the nether not having enough resources, and this would then make it even harder for those that complain.

Overall, I like the idea, but I find it impossible to do. No offense, of course. It would just create too many problems. Mainly, my concern is the portals... there's no way to prevent that except making the nether portal in the spawn the ONLY portal allowed... which would lead to the complaining about access to the nether (everywhere near would be stripped even more than it is now).
I'm not saying convert the whole darn nether, I'm just saying that the top 1-3 places get moved into the nether.

If it takes a whole 64x64 area, that would still only be 512 from spawn that portals would be effected. But even that may not be effected, depending. There is a 128 block check, so it should STILL dump you out at the spawn portal, even 512 out from spawn.

Not to mention the Y is unaffected. So you could simple move main spawn up to the "skybox" of the nether. Problem solved... unless. for some reason, someone tries to make a portal 512 from spawn, AND 100-128 up?! that would be slim, VERY slim. http://mc.minetown.net/wiki/index.php/Nether#Portal_Generation

However, on the resources, I suppose that could be accurate. I have no raw data, but I'm just going to guess that in a square 64 blocks (64x64x64) there is not much else besides lava and netherack. Certainly nothing of major value. (if there is, then people have been too quick to complain that the nether is void of resources) But that would be fairly easy to confirm with WE.

It would give people something to look at other then a grieved area of disappointment.
you said a monthly event... it would continually expand...

I'm familiar with portal generation, as well. You don't need to act all condescending.

The nether is lawless as well... there's no such thing as grief there.
I like the idea Xgamer, don't let duns try and crap on your idea.

Duns is also, as usual, wrong again on the points he is asserting.

State how I'm wrong. I'd like to hear it. What point, that I've made here, is wrong. Provide evidence.
In addition, I wasn't trying to call his idea crap. Slurth, for once try actually reading everything I say. The post in question was opinion based, I used personal pronouns. Therefore, my thoughts can't be "wrong." Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I don't understand why you always have to try proving me wrong. Each time I always imply that both your argument and mine have merit, yet you always go out of your way to say I'm wrong, lol. I'll quote you if you want.

Still, out of everything I said... tell me how I'm wrong. I really want to hear it. Because, as far as I know, I'm right on everything. Continuous expansion... 1+ lots added every month... eventually it would get pretty large. As well, my points were based on the current spawn, Slurth. Don't go making wild assumptions that I'm wrong on everything. It's kind of embarrassing that you would call me out saying I'm wrong, when everything I said was correct, based on the OP. He added more later, which made me change in the post after.

So Slurth, do us and yourself a favor, stop trying to prove me wrong on everything. Because, afterall, I'm right more so than wrong. Check on all my posts, it'll prove it to you.
Wow, I drive home from work and the thread explodes.

First off, I did not mean to sound condescending. Sometimes written communications can leave out important word inflection.

Secondly, with that link, i'm sure there was at least one person whom did not know that, it was not directed JUST at you.

Don't go making wild assumptions

Finally, by monthly I meant:

With the Valentines Day Event finishing up it is time to announce the March Building Event. The theme of the event will be Bunnies and eggs.

As in, they generally have a contest every month. So like that, this would be a one time thing, it would be a finite event, which the reward instead of credits, would be recognition by work placement.

I believe the challenges that you posted dunsjohn, are quite minor, however if this is way out of line, for whatever reason(s), then work placement would need not be a prize.
