[Enjin Archive] Reset Guest World
Started by [E] mattgagne

TPrezzle,

I will take it with a grain of salt as a jest.

Guest world should be reset weekly, I agree. The resets would add to the sense of adventure Minetwon has to offer. Every week, I know I would be waiting like a kid at a candy store to go into a fresh guest world and explore were no Minetowner has gone before!

Cheers!

Honestly, the guest world needs to be reset. Every time I go in the guest world and wander around, all I see is griefed buildings, or flooded areas with water and lava. Everything that is built in the guest world, is broken into.
Ever since I came on this server (quite some time ago) the guest world has never been reset. (To my knowledge). The islands that I first came upon while exploring the guest world 3 months ago are still there (granted they are quite defaced now). I agree with everyone who has posted here so far, that the guest world should be reset. HOWEVER, I think that we should have a little patience and wait for Minetown to update to 1.2.3. This way, the guest world will have all the new features, like JUNGLES!!!!!!! xD Just my thoughts on this issue. :p

Also, if I understand Hawkeye correctly (probably not xD), mod+/admins can rollback a selected area using worldedit. Maybe rather than resetting the whole guest world once a week, and having to *potentially ?* shut down the server while the world is reset, a small area around the guest world spawn, (say 250 x 250) could be rolled back every week, making the guest world more presentable, and seem "fresher". Then, the world itself would only have to be reset once a month or once every 2-3 weeks. (this idea could possibly be applied to the nether and end spawns)

P.S. Don't take me too seriously :p I am not proficient with Hawkeye, nor do I pretend to be. Just an idea I thought would help the server.
I don't know all that much, but when I do:

World editing anything 'big' lags, and lags hard. When I was playing with WE on an old server, with an admin teaching me, I crashed the server setting a 32x32 to 0. Granted, doing things one at a time, (set gravel 0 then set water 0, the lava 0 ext) is less of a load, it still can suck. Now, I have NO IDEA how a roll back would effect that big of an area...
Consider this: Most of the watery areas around spawn are still water correct? This means most of the blocks have not changed from when they were first loaded. A roll back returns the selected region back to its original state (or a previous state), meaning that uneven water would become level, and mines would be "filled in" with stone once again. Only player actions would be undone, meaning that most of the land would stay unchanged. So, rather than replacing 8 million blocks (250x250x128) which WOULD indeed crash the server, it would only replace at most 10,000 blocks, which would NOT crash the server. It's kinda hard to explain, but I can elaborate if you'd like xD
I agree with ▲ภ๏ภум๏υѕ, and we should maybe wait for the 1.2.3 update and then be able to take advantage of the new features. I have no clue about the technical implications. But I think the guest world should be reset AT LEAST once a month.

If you'd actually sail out a bit, you'll see that even areas within 20 blocks of the Guestworld Spawn, consist of large underwater pillars, a sea filled of uneven waters and random dots of cobblestone, dirt and cprivated items. Maybe we don't need to reset all the Y portions, but I would include the waters around spawn up until land, in all directions. Instead of lagging it ingame, i think a better option would be to do it when the server is down for a while, so then we can upgrade to 1.2 and do the world reset without lagging all the players. The server is down anyway, so why not kill two birds with one bullet?

(Theoretically speaking not literally! I love all bird-kind, except maybe the ones that eat my food at the beach)
As the rules say: The Guest World is off limits, to members. I am personally fine if you're going there to mine items, because, like you said, the main world will be cleaner, BUT, if you go there and PvP guests, and we get complaints, I will ensure you are sent to jail, or temp banned. We want guests to feel welcome.

BUT, my thoughts: As the main world will only be the main server for a few more weeks, I see no need to have to leave the main, to mine resources. I personally think MOST (95-97%) of all MT players will switch to the new world. Why? IT IS NEW!!!! There is a HUGE 11000x11000 map out there, unexplored, and untouched. Its a fresh start for your town, etc.

I will make a suggestion for a mining world, when the new server is up, if that has not already been suggested. That way, guests can enjoy their world, and we can get our resources elsewhere. (We could probably increase the # of ores, etc in the mining world, as well)
iSoccerplayer, that is an awesome suggestion. A separate mining world which is reset often enough to make it worth our while would be great!

I didn't know that any rules said Guest World "was off limits, to members." I would like to know were you have seen this. The sign when entering the GW in-game says: "Members: GW is for only mining, not PVP or harassing." The Rules on the website do not mention the Guest World and the Wiki says: "Members may enter guest world to mine, farm, etc"

Is it me, or are the rules and guidelines to the guest world unclear? Regardless, Guest World needs a reset soon. Thats all I am trying to communicate really.

Haha I hope this idea will be implemented, then the reset on the guess world could change to something like a month at a time, so Guests could enjoy their builds longer.

Once, when someone was talking about going to the guest world, one of the staff had said it was off limits, but that was some time ago. I'm thinking the rules on the Guest World have changed since then... I haven't been there myself for quite some time, so I haven't read over the rules for some time. I apologize for my lack of knowledge of the Guest World rules, I'm off to refresh on them now. :)
