Eh this is just my old play around laptop that I use to experiment with code and such. I actually play on my desktop that runs on Windows 7 so its no big deal. and Honestly, whenever I have a problem I try to fix it myself and if i cant I take it to my local comp repair store who diagnoses it for free.

Alright. Well if you still need help with it, let me know. <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f642.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":)">:)</object>
will do, I just was trying to avoid completely whiping the HD and installing a new OS again. Fedora has the best battery life on a laptop and doesnt have the millions of memory leaks that Ubuntu does. I dont want to switch away from it lol.
What's your hardware Schwarherz?
So, tried WINE?
Actually this smells like bad video driver support, are you able to play video/other games on your system well? In linux that is, else go see if there are updated video drivers.
I keep my system updated, I think it's bad driver support so far as the nVidia driver goes. Whenever I change my driver over to the nVidia driver, that's when the screen starts messing up in games. I'll need to try with the noveau driver.

EDIT: and yes I've tried WINE. It's not really practical for games you're planning on playing online...you think lag is bad normally? Try it on WINE @.@

EDIT EDIT: I'll post the hardware specs tonight when I can get on my laptop again.
I ran MC just fine with Ubuntu. Have you thought about switching distros? Make sure Java and your drivers are up to date (and that the correct drivers are installed). Since you are playing on a laptop, is it possible that you are over-heating? My laptop has a lot of issues with this, so I took the cover off the underside and only play on hard surfaces (So it gets plenty of air). As far as WINE goes, you shouldn't need it. I'm pretty sure there is a version of MC that is compatible with most distros of linux.
I am using Mint linux with no problems.
Laptops might have poor integrated driver options for linux. Hell even my brand new i3 with integrated intel can't run minecraft for crap on Windows!

But my 2006 HP laptop ran Minecraft great once I got the restricted drivers for nvidia.
Well so far as switching distros, I started with Ubuntu. I hated it more and more every day. My current use of Fedora is a result of a several-month-long journy of testing nearly every distro I could get my hands on (well the ones that I liked the specs for anyway). distrowatch.com was my friend to say the least. For some reason I just kept coming back to Fedora, I dont know why. I tried the standard distro first, then the KDE spin and I'm currently using the LXDE spin. I really like it, especially the fact that it has a system usage monitor right on the main panel along with 1 click access to the terminal and the file system. Now that you guys mention it though it MAY be an overheating problem. The whole reason I experiment using my laptop is because it's notorious for overheating (it's a 3 - 4 year old Compaq with ALL the vents on the bottom) to the extent that I think some of the hardware may be heat damaged (I've recorded the temp of the processor at 200 degrees F before) I'll have to try it using a cooling pad and the default hardware (gods know I could have messed up in the transition somewhere). I always assumed it was some id-10-t error on my part or something in the programming that wasn't connecting quite right.
