[Enjin Archive] Minecraft in Linux?
Started by [E] Schwarherz

Anyone have any good ways to get Minecraft working in a Linux environment? Right now I'm using Fedora 16 with...XDE I think (I'll have to look it up again) and every time I try to get Minecraft working it works for maybe five minutes. Then my screen starts blinking and freaking out until finally either X shuts down or the screen stabilizes for a few more minutes (depending on its mood). Ive looked all over the net for a solution but nothing addresses this particular problem. Any ideas?
hmm.. Weird, i will look into this for you.
What java are you using? you may need to update that.
Im wondering if it might be a hardware issue because it does it on about any game I try, even ones that have a properly written linux version like Uplink
ah. if its doing that for every game, it again, maybe java, or, like you said, a hardware issue. The only problem i found with minecraft on linux was the screen going black while playing. Are you experiencing the black screen while playing?
the screen goes black while playing sometimes, but usually its the screen flicker. I think I can make it stop by closing the game, but it keeps going. A couple times its gotten so bad that Ive had to reinstall the OS because it wouldnt go away. Though now that I think about it Ive never tried playing with OpenJDK and the Nouveau(sp?) graphics card driver...I usually switch to standard Java and the nVidia driver.

I found that for the black screen.

Does your screen flicker/flash even when not playing games?
only if I had been playing a game beforehand. and I'll have to check out that fix.

EDIT: Looks like the fix only works for Debian systems...I'd have to do some playing around to get it to work for Fedora. might be as simple as a "yum install apt" but still.
hmm, i have not worked with linux. I will do some more digging around tomorrow if the problem has not been fixed.

NOTE: dont take it into geeksquad. LOL, They will over charge you. They tried to charge me 900$ for a new motherboard..

But yes, i will look for a fix. <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f642.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":)">:)</object>
Eh this is just my old play around laptop that I use to experiment with code and such. I actually play on my desktop that runs on Windows 7 so its no big deal. and Honestly, whenever I have a problem I try to fix it myself and if i cant I take it to my local comp repair store who diagnoses it for free.
