First off, let me start by introducing myself.
My in-game name is Seyphealex, also known as "Sey", "Seyph", or by some: "Alex"
I've been playing on Minetown for close to what is it... 9 months?
I've been here since the Almighty CodyHollaway ruled the server (may he rest in peace in the bosoms of his girlfriend) and was here when the unfortunate Broly incident occurred. After a while, I haven't been as active as I wanted to be due to work and school. I would occasionally drop in and see how things are going.
But with my schedule now in a good spot, I have more free time and want to spend some of it playing Minecraft/Minetown once again.
However, my return to Minetown was at a bad time when 1.8 coming out and the main server not being updated. So I've been playing on the temp servers until everything gets settled. On this latest map (by far the longest lasting), I was given creative mode by the One Above All sawine. I then proceeded to build an 83 radius stone brick tower up to the sky limit. I worked inside the interior and now it is almost finished with many small details needed to be done. Most if not all visitors so far to the tower have been impressed if not in awe at least.
I've asked sawine early in the development of the tower if I could keep it and his only response was "maybe".
Mentioning this in another topic, I was both supported and opposed in the idea of moving it to the main server.
Probably the biggest opposition is DanniDorito with her...semi-extensive responses (longer at least than the 1 sentence ones by other posters).
Her latest one brings up good points that i want to refute:
And I bet you got those given to you, unless you found the stronghold
This was mentioned about stone bricks not being in 1.7.
First off, I'm creative. I was not given them, I "spawned" them myself.
Secondly, this statement assumes that the only way to acquire stone bricks is to break them from a stronghold. No. I mean someone as active as you on both in-game and forum matters should know that stone bricks in 1.8 can be crafted from... obviously stone.
Thirdly, I do not even know if you ever saw the tower but the amount of stone bricks used would have surpassed every stone brick naturally spawned in all three strongholds
You could have Im not arguing with youstarted to design your tower in 1.7, then when the proper 1.8 map comes out you could have replaced the blocks with stone bricks.
Oh wait, you wish for me to use dirt or cobblestone to design an 83 radius tower to sky limit along with every platform and feature inside, then replace every single block by hand with stone brick? You're insane.
Im not arguing with you
By stating your disapproval and giving evidence, you are in fact arguing with me.
Definition of argument:
1 an exchange of diverging or opposite views, typically a heated or angry one
2 a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong
(from the Oxford Dictionary)
im just pointing out if your allowed a tower moved across made from spawned items, why cant everyone else? Your argument of 'its amazing' will not be valid; my diamond house is amazing and im not expecting that to be moved across
This is the where the 'meat' of my argument will be.
Lets start off with the 'it's (from someone from the UK, you sure made an elementary mistake there) amazing' part.
Yes that is true, an 'it's amazing' defense would not work. The look of any structure is subjective so I move on to my next point.
Although not the best answer nor the most mature, I will still debate this point. The reason why a diamond house would NEVER be moved over is so incredibly obvious to the point where I need not explain it. On the other hand, my tower is made up of nothing but stone bricks, glowstone, and glass; items that are 10000x easier to obtain than diamond mined naturally. A house made up of even a stack of diamond blocks would still take more time to mine than my tower of a few tens of thousands (or possibly even hundreds of thousands, but who is counting eh?) stone brick. Glowstone is only a tad harder to obtain. I could walk through a portal and mine it all within a short period or purchase them from the credit shop/other players. The glass is a non-factor, too easy obtain and i don't use enough of it in my tower to warrant any objections.
This last point I'm about to make could perhaps be my most heated one. The quick and dirty answer is that you and most of the newer people believe that Minetown is "all legit". Maybe it was once so several months back, but now? I LAUGH at anyone who thinks so. Why aren't we allowed to spawn items at will and create whatever structures we wish? I have no idea. Is it preserve the illusion that Minetown is made up of legitimate structures, all their material gained by hand? Maybe or maybe not.
*cough* Uhhh I gotta start heading to class, will elaborate more on the last point and start on my arguments on why my tower should be moved to the main server after I finish.
