[Enjin Archive] Which channel do you want as default?
Started by [E] sawine

Hey,

It seems it isn't easy to get a consensus about which channel should be the default channel.

As of now, all channels are auto-joined upon login.

Which means you will hear everyone talk in every channels, but when typing, without changing channel, it will send to the Universal channel.

Currently Universal channel (cross-server) is specified as the default. Global channel is the server specific chat (not cross server)

Which channel would you like to be the default one ?

"How to I get an island???"

"HELLO!?!"

nopls

global chat pls
I can see both arguments really.

If universal is default then players are spammed with crappy chats like skyblock. But can leave for global. It helps staff but doesnt benefit players.

If global is default then they are closed communities, anyone who joins universal will be practically talking to themselves, they can see global chats but no-one will see them as not many will use universal. Good for players and a less spammy chat, not beneficial for staff.
Is it possible to have them already have joined both channels, but the default is global chat?
Universal chat being default is just awful in every way. I can't believe it's even being considered, especially after all the complaints about it before global was changed back to default.

There were complaints from both sides.

Although now having all the channel auto-joined on login change things a little. Most of the complaints were that the Universal channel was mostly empty. Auto-join will at least have people receive Universal messages from people who will focus their chat on it.

Since this poll shows to be majorly in favor, I will change back the default channel to Global.
Godbless democracy
I feel like I'm the only one who disagrees with you guys, which is fair enough.

Where's the community feel, when we're all on 'segregated' servers? In times when there's not many players online, you could find yourself alone on SkyBlock, with nobody to talk to. Minetown is famous for it's community, but there's no community when nobody can speak to each other.

What about those Guests on Event (For example)? New guests in the hub often find it intriguing to travel to the Event server (And other servers too). The Event server is often at 0-1 people online, when events aren't running. So this Guest can't ask for help, and will most likely leave Minetown, and not return. This isn't just the Event server; we can't help any players on any other server (other than the one we're on).

SkyBlock? Okay, the spam can be annoying. Those people still need help, although, I think there'd be enough people online on SkyBlock to handle it themselves. Therefore, I would suggest keeping the Universal channel as default on all servers, except SkyBlock. (But they can still join it).

We can't help new members if there's no way we can talk to them. As I've said, Minetown is famous for welcoming new members, into it's community. How can we do that, when the community is split across different chat channels?

Having an option to join this Universal channel won't cut it. The time of which this was available, nobody used it (That I saw). Not one conversation. Besides, new people wouldn't know how to join it anyway.

If the Universal channel were to come back (As default), the /ignore command would have to work cross-server. <- Problem solved.

I'm sad to see the majority of votes on default Global, it spreads us out, as a community.

This was suggested a while back by a few people (I think), and is the only way I would ever vote to have universal as default. Yes, it's nice to be able to talk to people on other server, but its not nearly worth sifting through dozens of lines of skyblock chat (which is basically people asking the same 3 or 4 questions over and over and over because they can't read signs.)

Edit: AS for /ignore being server-wide, I don't see that as a solution, its more of an incorrectly applied band-aid. I for one don't want to ignore everyone on skyblock, I just don't want to be overwhelmingly spammed with their chat while I'm not on skyblock. If I'm playing on skyblock, I would still want to be able to talk to them.
OP likes saying 'channel'.
