So I wanted to figure out how to make an awesome image render of my Minecraft world, my jealousy spurred from this submission. Redditor Quag commented, and I figured out how to use his program (using the free program Blender). Here's the step-by-step:
1) Go here to turn your Minecraft world into an object - download it. Go here to download Blender - you need 2.5+ (meaning, currently, beta: link to latest as of this post Blender 2.56a here). Put the mcobj tool in an easy to navigate to folder such as your Desktop. Install Blender.
2) This part I somehow rightly guessed how to do. Navigate to the folder where your Minecraft world is located (i.e. C:\Users\ username \AppData\Roaming.minecraft\saves). Make sure the folder name has no spaces (i.e. "World1", not "World 1"). Start Menu, Run, type "cmd" to bring up the Command Prompt. Navigate to the folder that "mcobj.exe" is located in (i.e Desktop) by typing "cd Desktop". On this page, under Usage, it shows the following line which you must type out, verbatim, in Command Prompt. That line is: "mcobj -cpu 4 -s 20 -o world1.obj %AppData%.minecraft\saves\World1". Replace "World1" with whatever no-spaces folder name your world is titled. Hit enter. It should take awhile and produce an .obj file. You can, apparently, change these variables, though I don't yet know how they work, but I typed out that line and it worked as intended.
3) I have no prior experience with the program Blender, as I imagine some of you might not, so I'll be explicit with this step. Run Blender. Click past the center intro menu. Click the cube in the middle, hit Delete on your keyboard; Click the Delete that pops up. Then hit Spacebar and type "import obj" and hit your Enter key. Browse to the .obj file you made, and click Import OBJ (button is top right). Wait awhile while it imports. And suddenly, your amazing world will appear! Now, near the top right, (at least in this version of Blender, 2.56a), there's a set of four buttons, the third one of which looks like a planet, and its tooltip text reads "World. Click it. On the right, near the bottom, there's a Panel titled Ambient Occlusion - check-mark the box. Then his F12, which renders your world. Wait awhile in perspiring anticipation. Soon, your final image will appear! When it's done, near the bottom left, you can Save a .png image file of the render! <object class="emojione" data="

Note: Thanks so much to Quag for his amazing tool. I essentially repeated a lot of the instructions he provided, though more explicitly, and I hope it's helpful to others. The render this provides doesn't look nearly as good as the other submission, though I'm trying to figure out Blender to improve the visuals of the render. Please comment if you've figured anything out. I hope this has helped!
