This may be a smart-alec question, but what is the point of using the plug-in? I mean -- doesn't an item entity, once dropped on the ground, disappear after five minutes?

I am typing this up because whenever I die, the thing just happens to commence immediately, and all the belongings that I were carrying disappear. That just happens to me all the time.

This is NOT a suggestion to remove this "plug-in", or whatever is. I am only asking why it is needed even if items eventually disappear after five minutes, that's all.
I believe in single player, a dropped item does disappear after 5 minutes.

But, (I think) due to slight server lag (perhaps unnoticeable, but it's there), these items stay on the ground for quite some time after 5 minutes.

Anyway, the purpose of ClearLag is literally to remove some lag by 'deleting' all dropped items and some entities. (I think).

This may include things like (hostile?)mobs and fired-arrows, alongside dropped items.

A plugin may be added that provides a chest upon death, so your items should be safe from ClearLag until your return.
its not really needed for a server like the pvp server. its needed for Tekkit servers and ftb servers where entities can spawn when noone is in a chunk for then to disappear or chunks can be unloaded with entities in them. i noticed CLAG was mis configured on the pvp server it needs to be made so it doesnt delete things like my boats and paintings. it may also be useful for servers where their are mob traps like main.
Usally it will dissappear after 5 minutes, but on MineTown at least they stay for quite some time, basically forever
well if you got a plugin that did that and you had a shop that sold chests, then you could "craft" chests by dying and dying over and over again.

True, but:

~Your /f power would decrease rapidly, which is a major downside.

~It's a lot of effort to say you could just chop 2 logs (-> 8 Wood Planks -> 1 Chest).

~Last but not least, who even sells chests? o.o

Grrr..... it freakin' happened again!

So I place down some water so that I can jump down to a deeper level. And of course, the water flow just happens to be too slow for me and I fall to my death, RIGHT before the commences. ARGH!

Maybe if you had a plugin that rather than clearing entities every 5 minutes or what ever, once a entity was 5 minutes old it got cleared.
