If I had been in Mace Windu's position, I would NOT have leaned back that far with my lightsaber... He decided to make it the chancellor's grand exit when he leaned back that far with his lightsaber, which gave Anakin time to react to the situation based on his emotions. I would've made it quick and simple, before Anakin could've cut off my wrist. I think that little motion is what (In the Star Wars universe) shaped the future of the Republic and the Jedi Order.
