Is anyone aware if its possible to download the full pack like mods ect without having to use the launcher?

You can but I don't recommend it. If you download each mod and make your own client you would then have to set all the item IDs to match the server. This takes quite some time so it is much easier to download the mod pack since it is all setup for you.

Thus happened to me, I restarted it, then it worked, you also have to out your login info

after reinstalling numerous time and changing my directory seems the thing that was holding it up was the allocated memory. swapped this back to 1gb and all good...
