After the update I started a new world in single player and i spawned right next to this...after chopping it down and looking around some more I think notch added a new tree and wood skin

didnt u know about that there is normal trees, charcoal trees aka burnt trees (the one found in ur photo) pine trees tall trees and other types also the leaves are multicolours i would think that the darker colour leaves would be dead leaves like on a real trees.

It looks dumb though.
