BUT - I think there is this overwhelming feeling that rich people are punished for working hard, whereas poor people are paid for being lazy. The problem with this theory is that despite the hard working well off people, there are many, many incredibly rich people who haven't necessarily worked hard for it, and countless poor people who would give anything to work hard and earn a lot of money but because of where they were born, their family's financial situation and other sociological factors have a very slim chance of having the opportunities to make a lot of money, regardless of work ethic.

In an ideal world everybody would be born with the same chances in life. At the moment that is very much not the case, therefore those that have the better opportunities, education, and the better jobs/inheritance pay a certain percentage more than those that don't in order to try and create equality within the country.

Social responsibility is a forgotten concept these days...
Hey, there is not a reason this should be top hot thread. You wanna know why? NO ONE cares about british politics. HAHAHA! What do you have to say now british people? :owned:

/lock
I do, other people on Minetown do. I even go to the length of giving a toss about American Politics.

Thatls a shitty reply, Parker. Thanks.
Sales tax taxes the rich more because they buy more. FairTax is neutral to your extremist view point and that of "rich people".

If you tax the rich as much as you want, they'll just leave the country and no one will aspire to be an engineer/pilot/other-complicated-career if they won't make enough money in it to pay off what they spent on college. And if you directly seize the capital of the rich, you'll still have a lack of skilled labor.

That, and the government is generally wasteful with money when there is a large quantity involved. Bureaucracy. The rich handled the Great Depression in America better than the government ever has.

Also, FairTax. Seriously.
Chill, I was jk'ing. Can't take a joke, can ya tP

I must say my knowledge of US economy is very limited, but I gather FairTax is pretty similar to our VAT, except all added at the end instead of through the chain. If so, there is a lot to be said for that kind of model as a general taxation system, as by definition like you say the rich will always get taxed more due to their spending levels.
Well guarantee that if the US raises taxes to unacceptable proportions on my company I will simply close up shop and move to a country with lower tax rates. This would cause thousands of people to lose their jobs. How is that better for the economy?

Sure I have more but I have earned it and built a strong company. Why should I be punished because I make money and employ people? In the mean time you have 4th generation welfare families which all working American's pay for simply choose to be on the program instead of working?

I base this off of America for the simple fact that I don't know much about the British economy or politics. Regardless of the country over taxing those who employ people is generally not a good idea.
