[Enjin Archive] Data Value Changer - GLITCH
Started by [E] Matt [5]

Lately people have been going absolute CRAZY about this. It all started with the circle stone brick generator, and now has gone to the mossy stone brick. Basically, what happens is every block is experiencing a data value change, with the pistons and water at different heights. The number of blocks that the water needs to travel determines what data value the changed block will be. Therefore, this can be done with wool, wood, stone bricks, slabs, stairs... the list goes on. For a clear, video explanation on this topic, please watch this video.

Because of this, I am 100% sure that all data value changers are bannable. Confirmation from staff will help solidify this point. I've already discussed this with DarthAndroid, and he agrees. I recommend that all uses of these machines cease immediately.

*Note* No, I am not trying to yell at you or put you down. I'm trying to help you not get banned <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f642.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":)">:)</object>

Nickuru Mod edit: *Changed video link* Please do not encourage people to still try to build this, as stated in the posts as well its now forbidden to use. If you have build one of these machines before, tear it down.
Matt, I applaud your efforts in doing this. It will clear up alot of issues/problems in regards to this. And stop the ingame arguments.

However, I say we should simply let them/those who want to do this; do it. When it comes time; and if the staff says is it illegal, then those who did will simply be banned or jailed. And we will never need bother with them again. Either way, it's a win-win for Minetown <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f600.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":d">:d</object>

Power to the Mods? xD
Staff are aware of this and have noted multiple times to the public this is indeed a glitch. We have allowed some of the initial cases to slip because there was a period before active staff had been warned the fix was undone during the update and some members had been inadvertently misinformed. However, once properly informed, members should not continue to make/use the generators. Staff will use logs to verify any questionable cases as usual.
Yeah, I know that some staff members today were still a bit confused about it today and approved these generators, which caused QUITE the argument in chat today... haha
When these were first brought to my attention, I asked in mumble and I'm fairly sure that a good majority of the staff were in there (including Sayomie) and it was an all around NO. As for comparing this to other generators, Here is a response for each case:

Cobble generator:

This is allowed because it utilizes the mechanic built into the game. When running lava meets running water, it makes cobble. This is an actual game mechanic and not in any way violating any laws of the game, it just takes the mechanic and packages it into a controllable machine.

Glowstone-Soulsand glitch:

Personally, I'm not even sure why MT'ers are allowed to use this glitch, as for the plugin was probably addopted by MT to serve as a toggle-able light and the recent addition of glowstone lamps have made the need for this plugin moot. In my honest opinion, this one should be removed because the purpose it initially serves has been built into the game.

Oby-Redstone:

This was actually a 100% glitch in the Minecraft code and it was documented, by notch, that he knows about it.

Indeed! I foresee a bunch of patches if competitive play ever takes off, though. Infiniobsidian is probably OP.

As Notch has stated that he knows about this, and has done nothing to fix it, I personally believe that it has become part of the game.

The part that I don't think my fellow Minetown citizens are grasping is that the generation of circle stone is not illegal it is the contraption that makes it, that is illegal. There are numerous videos that teach you how to do the same thing with wool (How I first learned about the glitch months ago). I figured that this would violate the rules of Minetown (I didn't even figure it would work), so I never even tried it.

I hope this clears up any confusion and I hope this glitch is fixed in the near future so we don't have to worry about it.
Ok, so powered soulsand to glowstone is a glitch? I just want to clarify this as I too thought that it was a mechanic implemented into MT as a plugin and not an exploit. I agree that it should be removed with the addition of lamps, but until it is there should be a clarifying statement that this specific mechanism is banned.. if that is the case... thanks
As of now, soul sand to glowstone is allowed, I've used this numerous times and never was told to not do it.

If this changes I'm sure we will let you know.
Just my two cents but I have seen you pushing this glitch a lot. You even noted that you have talked to staff about it. Staff has said in several places that this is not allowed. Then you go and post a video about it?? Noted that people can find the video if they wish but it seems your trying very hard to get people banned.

If staff knows about it (they do) then let it go.

As for the soulsand/glowstone I thought this was a plugin and not a glitch???
The soulsand to glowstone has to be a plugin because it does not work in singleplayer.

Yes it is and that one always has been allowed.
