So I just got approved and was about to join the server... but when I try to log in it says: Disconnected by server. Took too long to log in!!

In my experience that happens when you have a crappy internet connection.

Did you update to 1.2? If thats the case have a look at this topic:

No if he was updated to 1.2 it would say outdated ckient
