DayZ is a terrible game. A much better game would be 404wasteland (a mod for Arma II) which is 105% better than DayZ. DayZ really has no story to it nor goal - you just get good stuff and then proceed to use said stuff for killing everyone you see - which is boring as fuck. Wasteland is base building, objective acquiring and raiding, etc. It's also much more of a challenge (DayZ has turned into babyfeeding - people can easily run away and if they need to go AFK or check the map they just find the nearest tree)

Look up Wasteland servers in the vanilla game of Arma II: OA. My favourite are the Battleguns servers - they have crates and building materials everywhere.
