okay so the time cycle is broke or something, on the server the moon will do its full cycle, then it skips the sun cycle then its the moons turn, whats going on? i wanna build without getting attacked!

i pretended to afk in my vault while i made holes in grifff's vault and explored his until he covered it with bedrock. And now my vault is lost forever. Thanks, grifff!

Its the server lag that causes it to be night most of the time, It lags more at night due to haveing more mobs out i believe. Well that and especially during the change from day to night and vice versa, currently the light value changes for every block that is exposed to direct sunlight. Eventually in 1.8 Notch's new lighting code makes direct sunlight a texture that changes, lowering lag tremendously.
