If he were smart (like me) He'd just walk for 5-6 days in the nether, made a portal, end up in the farlands. Somewhere beyond the boundries of minetown is a lone portal where I didnt do the math. But it'd be pretty easy walking through nether, inventory full of diamond pickaxes and tunneling around y:7... You could tape down buttons to do that if you really wanted.

He'd probably get further, my understanding is the lag before then could cause issues due to falling sand n such. But the nether has no gravity enabled blocks, except maybe flowing lava. So fewer things to cause problems.
