[Enjin Archive] The Lag on Classic Server
Started by Unknown User

Now, let me be the first to say I have -no- idea what it takes to run a server, or how the servers are all distributed and how any of that technical mumbo jumbo works, its all hocus pocus to me. So if I am talking about something that makes -no- sense I apologize...but I have something I feel the need to get off my chest.

I am frankly so tired of the block lag on the main server. For a good portion of the day (if not all day) I find myself struggling to get ANYTHING done because I have to break one block six or seven times. I'm constantly popping in and out of the server to see if I can even try to work on my builds. I've even resorted to playing on Skyblock because its one other server where I can pretty much independently play and build what I want on my own. What I don't understand is how Skyblock can be practically lag free yet on Classic I can't break a single block. Is there some sort of distribution problem? Are the more 'popular' servers getting all the juice to keep the majority of players from experiencing lag?

I'm not going to fuss about the 80% MTC tax I paid for a server I don't want to play on, or the fact that Classic is a ghost town...I just want to work on my build quietly in my own little chunk of the map. I started this project almost a year ago, acquiring land bit by bit until I finally was able to receive a claim big enough for my build. Only now, when I've gathered almost enough materials to work on it, and I've found the time in my schedule to start tearing down and building up I can't do it!

I've put a lot of work into this server, and I'd like to see my work finished without just giving up but at this point it almost seems more logical to rebuild everything on my own personal world because then I wouldn't have to worry about the horrendous amount of lag.

I don't want to quit minetown, I really do adore this server and most of the people here but leaping lizards this lag on classic is ridiculous.
The majority of lag on Classic is caused by Craftbook automated farms, harvesters, collectors, spawners and circuits.

A good amount of these features would need to be completely disabled to fix the problem. Doing so will probably upset a bunch of people.

They were not a problem in small usage, but they are now over used.

We will look into the issue.

Regards
One of the better options to full disablement. Is to decrease the default radius of these farms. I effectively designed farms that are only a radius of 5. Another acceptable option is to restrict all ST variants of Harvester, Irrigator, Cultivator, and block breaker. ST's tbh were never intended for SMP use. More over they were simply for admin use only for like making infinite supplies of food for new comers and such.
You guys have always been good about upgrading servers, and to tell you, the lag now is nothing like 1 1/2 years ago. It was insane back then. Place 8 blocks, then the server would set you back to 1 block being placed.
It's true. It was essentially impossible to build anything most of the time back then. The lag is pretty negligible now compared to what it was in the past.
Can we request to have the spawner limiter enabled again (on Classic)? Sorry if I missed a thread explaining that it was disabled.

I don't care how much XP or how many items folks get from farming, I just encounter unbearable lag when someone has 1000's of mobs alive in a farm. If possible, enabling the limiter on Classic again would reduce a lot of the problem I believe.

The AFK Kicker would be great to have as well!

Thanks!
