every time i log in it says downloading packages and it wont go past that can someone plasea help me

does it go all the way to done dowloading but the bar doesnt ever finish? if so then you have to delete minecraft.jar and redownload it

(Had) this problem.

None of the fixes above, or below, or on google will fix it.

You have to reformat, or use a different computer to download the new version, and then transfer the files to your computer every time, unless you want to reformat.

Yeah, download the newest version. Your going to need it one time or another.

Different problem, for some reason it won't let him update it, unless the files are transferred manually.

I'd give you some of mine, but it would be illegal ^_^

I did that when I had the problem, and does nothing to fix it, just downloads a new version file, and thats about it.

Running minecraft as Administrator worked for me.
