I just updated my minecraft a few hours ago and I've been trying to connect to Minetown, but I can't. When I hit multiplayer on the minecraft menu it takes a long time loading my server list, then when I try to connect to Minetown it freezes and then the screen is blank. After 5 minutes, it returns back to the minecraft menu. Does anyone know whats going on?

Try to accumulate more RAM to your minecraft.

I think you need to delete .minecraft folder and re install it.

Gcb, did you have any mods before 1.3? If you did before you log in, click options, then click force update
