i really need to lift items up from bedrock preferably to the surface so really want some way of moving items.

You could use storage minecarts, or wait until 1.3 and use ender chests...

Have you thought about using a Duckshop sign? You can set it to accept any item for no cost.

basically what i neeeded it for was i have a wheat farm underground and all the wheat funnels down but i hit bedrock to the collection point is a bit small, i would like to have the wheat and seeds move up to a bigger collection point, not restricted by bedrock, automatically without the need of a stevien hand
