I have my preferences set on Laptop #1 for multiple reasons but I have some things I'll be doing with it. I'll be, of course, gaming, video recording, video editing, web page design, simple graphics design, and flash animations. I realize that an external hard drive is cheap so that brings me to using Laptop #1 as a more affordable option. I also intend on taking my laptop to my friends' houses, so I want to show boat a little bit of course. When I'm not at my friends' houses, it will be docked as a desktop setup for 2 extra screens.

Questions:

What are some ways for judging a graphics/video card?

How long do you think this computer should last me?

It doesn't really say how long the battery should last, but from experience, how long would each last?

Which one do you think is better for the prices seeing my uses?

Thanks for checking out my thread, if you have any answers, please post also, vote in the poll!

The first computer's graphics card is infinitely superior and will run BF3 on ultra settings, the second one won't.

I have to add, the processor isn't outdated. It's better than the 3rd Gen actually, if you ask me.

But yeah, if you want to, get the first one because of the graphics card.
Alright, thanks for that information. Can you explain to me what makes the second computer's processor better? Honestly, I thought the third gen was better because well, it's 3rd Gen, and it's 2.3 GHz instead of 2.2 GHz
Bump
Well if I were you, I would REALLY go for a desktop instead of a laptop because desktop components will always be better but a high end laptop should do fine.

Really, an i7 processor of even the FIRST generation should be fine. They're all very good CPUs and in all honesty, a first or second gen i3 wouldn't really affect gaming performance. You want to focus on the GPU, RAM and CPU.

Both CPUs are more than sufficient.

Both have 16GB RAM. Again, more than sufficient.

Both have decent GPUs (Graphics Cards) but the first one is much better.

To put it into perspective, the CPU benchmark for the first one (i7-3610QM) is 8,352. The second one is 6,801. This is negligible really. They're great.

Now for the GRAPHICS. This is where it gets important.

The 3D Mark for the first one (GTX 670M) is 1,740. The second card (GTX 560M) is 1,263. Again, they won't be as good as desktop graphics. The desktop version of the GTX 670 has a mark of over 4,000 and is the second best graphics card in the world.

As for the HDD space, 750GB should be fine, really. Anyway, you could always double that for 60/70 dollars.
EDIT:

Just realised, both laptops have high resolutions. This will make it harder for the graphics cards. Mmmm, I'd really get a desktop unless you're desperate for a laptop.
Alright, thanks for the answers! That is exactly what I was looking for, but I've got a decent enough desktop right now, but what I need most is a laptop for gaming with friends at their houses and such.
Ok, mind if I ask your PC specs? :)
Well my desktop isn't the greatest, but it get's the job done. It's only got 4GB DDR3 Ram, but it's got a decent on board video card as well as another decent one, so it runs games pretty well. It's got a 500 GB Hard Disk, and it's got a dual core 2.4 GHz processor. That's why I need a laptop rather than a desktop, because my desktop runs games such as Minecraft better than the laptops of my friends which are like a year old. The desktop is 6 years old btw, it's been living off me swapping it in for new parts. It also could use upgrading, but a laptop fits my lifestyle more at the moment. Also, mind if I ask your specs? :)
I know this thread is somewhat old, but the fact that a resolution is larger doesn't necessarily mean that the GPU has to work harder. If it does, it shouldn't affect it very much at all. Asus makes good products right now, but remember, Dell used to be the same way! Personally, I'd go with the first one. You can always swap in a bigger hdd, newegg sells WD Blue Scorpio and Caviars relatively cheap, just don't get a refurb. The only real benefits to 7 Ultimate over Home Premium is RDP, and maybe bit locker, which I don't even use. Just my opinion, even though you've probably already bought one.
