Everytime I interact with certain things, like all blocks or a few signs, nothing happens and i get a message saying "first position set to..." or "second position set to..."

You are using a wooden axe... It is the tool we (staff) use to make WE selections. Use the command /toggleeditwand and you will be able to use it without issue.
