Yea, it probably crashed. Before-hand it was REALLY slow, so it probably lead to a crash.

I imagine a player limit or something similar is being implemented due to the insane amount of lag near the end.

Well, it was really laggy right before the crash, so my guess is it was shut down for maintenance or crashed and is in the process of being fixed.
