[Enjin Archive] Player Rights against Forced PVP
Started by [E] Idellechi

In SSP i enjoyed going to the nether and end a lot for recources (I think netherbrick is quite pretty) and experience. In SMP, this all changed with an aspect called Player Vs. Player, commonly abbreviated as PVP. My parents are extremely strict and do not want me engaging in most video-game violence and they scold me often for going to the end and nether. I started to think- Shouldnt I have a right as a player on this server to be able to explore such areas without having to go through this?

So, over the past few months ive been very sneaky, and worked in the end and nether quite a bit, trying to be unnoticed. There was one time I convinced my parents to allow this, but then drama with a old faction revoked my privileges. I have tried to steer clear of PVP in areas such as much as possible, unless helping out a friend of my faction and I try to warp away. Sadly the results arent always in my favor. Tonight was an example- I was trying to help solve the mystery of a recent missing dragon egg glitch. While searching the surrounding area of the altar I was ambushed, I tried to warp away, but the fire and sharpness sword they used lagged me so much I couldnt type. I got a little angry after that, and thought it was time to bring my idea to life.

So here's a question for you: Should players be allowed to be protected from PVP with proper consent?

I think one solution would be to create a rank that excludes members from all player-inflicted damage. That way they could not be afraid of pvp zones. Of course, if created this rank will not be for everybody. It will be strictly selective and while giving players in it advantages in the End and Netherworld, they should have some rules. They will be in permanent PVP off, and will require an appeal of sorts to be placed in and out of the rank. They cannot engage in pvp, and will not be allowed in PVP events like drop-run.

I would like to know what the community thinks of an addition as such.

EDIT: I actually have this more directed twords activity in the end- the end is quite small, and many people go for the Enderdragons. The nether is so large I rarely see anyone there. Another solution may be to have a larger end, or maybe two or three ends.
And PS- before anyone says im a butthurt preteen with mommy issues...

Yeah, i know. Been living with her for about 13 years. No need to point it out, captian obvious.

Cuz I just know people are going to troll.

You have every right to go into the nether as far as minetown is concerned but its your parents that have not allowed it, not us.

A majority of servers that were survival servers are infact PVP servers. Many servers promote PVP within all worlds, minetown is one of the few where you have an option of pvp on or off in the main world and the extra world are pvp allowed to create difficulty in gaining the rare items.

If you are not allowed to go to the other worlds then do a lot of mining and buy the specialised items with the gold you find. Sadly minetown is set as a survival server for all sorts of players, it cannot be tailored to a small group of players who are not allowed to pvp. We have done our best to lower pvp within the main world by offering it within the other worlds. We dont have pvp events often and we always state if pvp is within the events, we usually go for building events.

The nether has been created lawless specifically for the rare items obtained within it. Allowing pvp within these worlds allows players to 'be bad' by killing others without actually breaking any rules. It promotes a constructive chaos without it affecting the main world. You know there are clear rules set within the main world and you can go and cause chaos within the nether, players understand the define line between the two and they then have the option on how they want their gaming experience to be.

I dont feel we could have player specific pvp within the lawless worlds. For one it would be massively unfair to players who dont like pvp but need items within the end and the other worlds would not be considered lawless if they are restricted from fighting certain players. Having pvp enabled creates another worry for players within the worlds and it really brings out the nether as 'hell' because it is full of chaos.

I am sorry your parents dont allow you to play in pvp, but half of minetowns experience is based on pvp and there needs to be constructive chaos where places are dangerous and have some sort of value for it to work. Sorry we cannot tailor to your needs, too many players would have their gaming experience changed in a negative way just to suite a minority of players.
I think the current system of optional PVP in the main world and forced PVP on in dangerous worlds is good. It strikes a balance between those who want to rumble and those that don't. I can see where you're coming from, you want items from these places but people could be waiting there to kill you. My suggestion would be to listen to your parents; just buy the items in shops. With voting and some bargin hunting, you could probably buy a small chest of netherbrick in a day or two. End stone isn't very expensive either.
Minetown pvp in the Nether and the End are just like the Wilderness pvp in Runescape, you can get many awesome items in the wilderness, but its your own risk going out there as you could be ambushed! Also with MC enderdragon as a boss in pvp zone sometimes, jsut like those of the bosses in Runescape that are in pvp! Thousands of players love it! Its in many games like that! Such an awesome concept to game, one person cant just change that....
What is Runescape? Can you please relate it to something I can understand?

Runescape is basically a game where you can pvp in an arena or a place called the wilderness which is in a forest. You do not have to pvp, what you can do instead is do quests, meet people, trade, and level up your skills. Lots of people play it, not violent (from when i played it) and was pretty fun. You have a banking system to deposit your things in and i'm pretty sure it's infinite space. You can travel to certain places and do mini games and kill bosses.
This is runescape: http://www.runescape.com/title.ws
lol mechman

pvp is good idea though

this reminded me of an article about how to abuse such a system (to great effect i might add). the situation became known as "Fansy the Famous Bard Isn't Touching You, You Can't Get Mad " (From: EverQuest)

you can read more about it at: Cracked.com http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-7-most-elaborate-dick-moves-in-online-gaming-history/#ixzz1qs0ZF4WE

it is number 4 on the list.

*i dont think this counts as advertising (as i dont remember what were not allowed to advertise) but if it does, please just delete the post or let me know and ill delete it
