There's a compound near my home warp, it looks abandoned and using a string shows that there's no region protection on it. I was wondering how would I go about claiming the compound if I'm allowed to. I created a PE but it was closed and I did not hear anything from any mod about it.

what you do is go to the house, take some screenshots then create a forum post to claim it. give the owner two weeks. include the coordinates. if the owner doesnt claim it's yours,

if there is no region protection or name of the person who built it is this still necessary? Polite... yes. but is it mandatory?

actualy it is neccesary, Becuase if it isnt abandoned, and somone greifed it thinking they oculd take it over, it is still considered greifing...Some mods Tell you to build something before you will get protection...

And I know id be pist if I didnt get to finish and logged in to smoone claiming my stuff.

Yes I closed this PE, I asked you to create a Forum Post asking the previous owner to claim the land within 2 weeks or it can become yours.
