Are you using Minecraft 1.2? If so, check out this post to see how to downgrade to Minecraft 1.1, which is the version Minetown is currently running.

They might not be updated either. Have you downgraded? Once you downgrade, you *might* need to restart your computer depending on if you use anything windows vista or older.

This means that you are in offline mode, or the username/password you used to log in when you launched minecraft are incorrect.

This error does happen when people are not running a legit copy of the game also.
