for some strange reason I can't get on the server any more. It says the connection timed out. I need to get back to my town so we can expand, and possibly lure more people into the town.

Currently this stinks because I can't do anything on minetown (Oh yeah, solo survival is now boring and I never play it. Please help!
1. Are you running Minecraft 1.2 or above? If so, you need to be using Minecraft 1.1, as the server has not updated the server to that yet!

2. Try using Direct Connect, and putting in mc.minecraft.net:25565. If I ever have a problem, this usually fixes it.

Hope this works!
Hello,

The reason you probably cant connect is because you updated your client to version 1.2, the thing is our server didnt yet... Since our server is running a lot of custom plugins we will update to 1.2 in a few weeks from now when all plugins are updated.

There two options you have at this point in order to play minecraft, these are:

  • Play on the temp server mc.minetown.net:1337 (its our temp 1.2 server you should be able to access and play on till our main server is updated) and enjoy some 1.2 action allready.
  • Downgrade your client to version 1.1 so you can play on the main Minetown server again, below are the steps to do so.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/63315813/minecraft.jar

  1. Download the clean Minecraft 1.1 jar file using the link above.
  2. Copy the downloaded jar file.
  3. Type %appdata% into the start menu > run window
  4. Open .minecraft folder
  5. Open the bin folder
  6. Delete the current Minecraft.jar file
  7. Paste the Minecraft 1.1 jar file in the same folder
  8. Done

Now if you start minecraft again it will highly probably asks you if you want to upgrade again, this time please press NOT NOW. Then continue to connect to the server in the normal way.

Hope this helps, if you have any more questions feel free to ask <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f600.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":d">:d</object>
And here's the steps to downgrade if you are using a Mac:
