when is the main server going to be updated to 1.2 or is it just going to stay at 1.1

The main server will be updated to 1.2 when bukkit releases a semi-stable build for 1.2.

thats strange...the recommended bukkit build was released today...er guess it was yesterday now. Must still be a 1.1 build then?

Yes, they just pushed out revision 6 of the 1.1 build as a recommended build.
