[Enjin Archive] New Rank?
Started by [E] Parkerjdude

Hello.

For a long time now I have been seeing guests just being ignored, especially since they now have their own chat or can only chat in local. Of course some guests ask very stupid qeuestions that are on signs right at spawn, but some are people who want to join the server and see what the server has to offer, but is not introduced, showed around, or even said hi to in a friendly manner. A good warm community is what minetown is all about, and I don't think this kind of behavior is giving a good impression on the new guests and possibly next generation of Minetown. I am putting out the idea that we have a new rank called the , whos one and only job is to help new people and possibly the noob who just became a member. I remember when I first became a member, and I really didn't know what was going on. No one really helped me except my friend that I know IRL. This new position would not have any extraordinary powers or commands. They would just have the prefix and maybe a list of people on this rank at spawn so people know who to ask when they first get on. The prefix would help, so they know who to call for help and to also show that they are loved by staff and are welcomed by minetown. Thank you for your time to read this.

I would also like to volunteer for this position.

If you like the idea or dislike the idea, please put why underneath.
I like it because as a guest i was ignored and if it does become a real position i wish to voluteer for it so i can help the guests

i chose we do not need this rank because:

1: They can roam around in the MT world, go to warps, whatever.

2: I'm not 100% sure but i think they can do /ch g

3: We have mods, and they can show guests around.

Sorry, I'm not for it.
Yes, they can roam about, not seeing what the heck any of it is, to answer number one.

2, they cant do /ch g, because they were spamming the regular chat.

3, Mods are to busy dealing with members problems and usually guests are ignored.

thank you.
1: Your argument is invalid.

2: If they were spamming the chat, its good they get their own, any stand-out guests will contact a moderator if the require any assistance.

3: Mods are required to help ALL minetown PLAYERS, not members only.
I would really like if an admin or mod could look at this to see if it was even plausible
I'm not shooting down your idea, I'm just giving my opinion on the matter.
I disliked it because I don't think you should need a special rank in order to help people... Just do it! For those of you that want to help all the guests, I do have some tips to share:

  • Always keep guest chat on (Heck, sometimes I even turn off global so I can focus on them).
  • Explain the process to becoming a member, chances are they are a little upset that they can't just come in and start building. Let them know that we do get a huge number of apps a day and sometimes it takes a whole 48 hours.
  • Physically help them out. If you haven't noticed yet, guests are sticky and they get stuck in some weird places. If they are spamming that they are stuck, try to help them to /spawn or even toss them a /tpahere and give them some stuff while you're at it (I know Danni sad she gives her /kits to new people but I'm not sure on the rules for us members on doing this).
  • Tell them how to get additional help! Let them know there is a wiki with a new beginners guide! Tell them how to make a PE (make sure they know not to spam "can someone do #" and to never /tell a mod/admin to help them with stuff). Let them know that the forum is a great place to not be ignored. There are a lot of members that frequent the forums and that are willing to toss in their 2¢.
  • wiki wiki wiki
Crafter, some people can see shops right? Well, they don't necessarily know how to use it. They might also not know that there is a wiki. A simple whisper could most of their problems.

2, if they contact a mod, he ( or she ) will usually just say, "Read the signs at spawn", not necessarily knowing what they are asking.

3, Just because mods are suppoesd to, many times they are to busy with PE's, which sometimes also have them ignore the members.

This does not put down or regret the work that the administrators or mods work, they do a very good job at what they do and do their very best every day.
