If you mostly want cropping and text, then Photoshop is an expensive overkill. Try Gimp (desktop program) or Aviary Phoenix (web application). Both have good features and are free.

I use photobucket for uploading images (They have a nice iphone app). Just create an account, upload your image and they supply you with 4 different links. Use the BBCode one (starts with ' for a quick link ;P)

There is ways to get photshop cs5 for free...

Its not that complicated once you learn the basics.
