However, does it only work on wooden fence or can it work on netherbrick fence as well? Also, where does the sign need to be placed? I can't get the gate to work for either material.

have you remembered to make some material around the gate just as they did with cobble at the little link slurth gave you? i think its necesary.

btw the i think signs can be placed within 5 blocks or so close to the gate

Yes it works with with Netherbrick, And I have my sign 2-3 block below the fencing but on the fram of the gate itself. (if that makes any sense) lol

Just tried This, To confirm..

Nethrbrick can be used, But Netherbrick Fencing Can not be, so you can have NetherBrick with wooden Fending. I made one for yo uto look at Duns if you warp to the area.
