[Enjin Archive] How to improve and optimize my internet quality for Minetown.
Started by [E] Sees3132

So...I have been on Minetown for a few days now and I am always getting lag for nearly every action I perform. I am sure it is a problem with my internet and not my computer hardware for many reasons. I tried installing Optifine, lowering most of my graphics settings, and using the default texture pack (I normally prefer using Dokucraft 32x32 version) and although I got huge gains in FPS (I hover around 400 on a consistent basis with these settings) it doesn't improve my situation with the lag. In single player my game runs flawlessly with absolutely no lag.

I have some information about my internet connection if it will help:

The normal ping time Minecraft lists for the quality of connection is 600ms (It is as low as 200 and as high as 1400 at times). I've read the server is hosted from Houston and, if this is true, I live quite close by (Geaux Tigers). Close enough to where this should not be a problem. I also have this problem on every other server I have joined but this is the largest and I am hoping the community is quite knowledgeable on this subject.

According to s_p_e_e_d_t_e_s_t_.n_e_t (I dont want to get in trouble for posting a link) my ping time is 22ms. My download speed is 9.22Mbps. And my upload speed is 1.07Mbps.

I use a Linksys Wireless-N USB Adapter to connect to a Linksys N Router. (I know this is slower than a wired connection but changing this is not an option)

I have also installed Leatrix's Latency Fix in hopes to improve my quality. It has obviously not helped too much <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f61b.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":p">:p</object>

Does anyone have advice on what I can do to help improve my experience because this is slightly irritating. I'll still be on MineTown no matter what but I hope someone can help me out to make the experience more enjoyable.

Thanks for your time.
I believe it's a server issue.

"We are aware our server suffer lag issues from time to time (especially in peak hours) and it annoys us. Our objective is to offer the smoothest and most lag free Minecraft experience ever. We are currently making extensive research on the topic and plan some hardware and software improvement pretty soon. We thank you for your donations which allows us to do so.

Please accept our apologies concerning our current performances, (even if they are better than most servers out there considering the amount of stuff we are running.) everything should become a lot better soon."

Hand in there and they should have thing's sorted for us all soon! I'm having these problems too, so is everyone. I take it you're not on about FPS lag but rather, the sort of lag where you end up destroying blocks several times..?
Yeah that's one of the things and I've seen that announcement but this happens on the other servers I've joined too. *sigh* Maybe I just don't have good luck when it comes to servers. <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/2639.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":(">:(</object> And you're right about the FPS, there is no issue.
It'll always be an issue I'm afraid :/ connection needs to be perfect on both sides of the game and that will never happen <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/2639.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":(">:(</object>
We've actually had times when there's 0 lag with 150 people (in comparison to what you're talking about). Every server has lag, that's how servers work. You have to take your connection, distance from server, server connection and many people on the server all into account. However, a lot of the lag comes from the mods/admins working with plugins. They're still trying to get all the plugins to work correctly. We just need to be patient and let them do their job. <object class="emojione" data="https://resources.enjin.com/1489581540/themes/core/images/emojione/svg/1f642.svg?0" type="image/svg+xml" standby=":)">:)</object> Because once they finish, we'll have so much more, I can assure you.

I also heard that we're getting a new server part, correct me if I'm mistaken. I believe Sawine said it would correct a lot of server issues we've been having lately.
Thanks for the replys. I hope I didn't sound impatient and ungrateful, I was just worried there was a big problem on my end. It's not good (obviously) to know everyone else is having this problem, but it is comforting. Thanks for going into detail about why we have lag dunsjohn, I appreciate it.
It isn't your fault unless it is unbearable to you at all times. We are upgrading some stuff soon that'll be awesome(In fact the parts are in route). If I am playing with 110-130 people I can notice quite a bit more lag than 80 people but I can still enjoy and it is not too bad.
That's not the case at all. I was simply concerned if it was a problem with my internet since I don't have a lot of experience with massive servers like this one. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.
