[Enjin Archive] I recently bought a new computer, and I need some help with it...
Started by Unknown User

I recently bought myself a new computer, and I need to know compatibility with them. So I am hoping someone here will be able to.. assist me.

(All Websites are simply for specifications, my models are identical to what is listed in each link)

My Computer, is a HP Brand, a p6820 Model

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/ho/WF06b/12454-12454-3329740-64546-64546-5080733-5110135.html

I also have bought a Graphics Card, a GIGABYTE Nvidia GeForce GT240 1GB GDDRS (GV-N240OC-1GI)

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3278#sp

The Sad thing is, My Computer's Power Supply is only 250w. The Card needs 400w minimum to run effectively. Therefore, I am in need of Upgrading it's Power Supply.

I was searching, and found this:

Coolmax 600 Watt Power Supply (VL-600B)

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/coolmax-coolmax-600-watt-power-supply-vl-600b-vl-600b/10162556.aspx?path=8a7f0d926b30fb4db292ca9d96d28be9en02

My question is, Will all 3 of these components be compatible with each other?

A simple yes or no will suffice, and do not offer better graphics cards or computer models, I already own them.

I simply would like a power supply that would be compatible to run both aforementioned items.

Thank you.

Yes, most likely yes.

The only potential problem would be that the motherboard might not have the right hookups for the power supply, but if that were the case (and it's probably not), all you would need to do is find the right cable, and they're cheap.

Sometimes, HP doesn't leave a whole lot of room on the inside of the tower for upgrades, so make sure you can fit it all in there before you throw away your receipt. I've had that issue, myself.

Save your old GPU! Put it in the anti-static packaging of the new GPU if you can, and then tuck it away someplace safe!

***Remember to completely delete your old GPU driver before attempting to install the new one, otherwise you might get conflicts. It should allow you to boot/run in 640x480 without any drivers loaded, so you can install the software cleanly.
